Local Area Network Trainer (Model : XPO-LAN)

Introducing XPO-LAN, a compact LAN experiment setup with four nodes showcasing various physical topologies like Token Ring, Token Bus, Ethernet (CSMA/CD), and Modbus. Explore protocols such as TCP, IP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP, and Wireless LAN (802.11).XPO-LAN includes error generation features via Network Protocol Analyzer Software, demonstrating protocol nuances. For undergraduates, free JAVA programs enable hands-on socket programming experience with TCP/IP, UDP, etc., within the lab LAN. The tabletop setup, designed on a light and sturdy Aluminium profile (4X2) rack, comes complete with cables and connectors. An optional USB to RS232 converter enhances connectivity. Each unit is accompanied by a user guide for easy comprehension.

Experiment topics / software:

  • Setting of IP, MAC for each node.
  • Protocols-ICMP (ping), ARP, UDP, HTTP (Web page), SMTP, FTP, TELNET using hyper terminal winsock, DNS, IP
    aliasing, node to node communication.
  • Error generation under ARP, UDP, IP ban.
  • Error generation and selective repeat under ICMP, Variable Packet
    Size (Upto1320Bytes), Inter-packet delay (1-60Sec), number of repetitions (Up to 60), Packet error Type (0 to 60).
  • Encryption and Decryption.
  • Downloading of web page showing IP, MAC address of node, showing frequency of variable Slow Clock of that particular node on web page, uploading enquiry form under HTTP protocol.
  • Wireless communication between PC to node, Node to PC and Mobile (Ad-hoc network) using Wi-Fi router.
  • Optionally experiments with 6 nodes need extender serial mux panel, cables set etc.

PC Hardware: One PC with (P4/XP, WIN7/8/10) CDROM, COM Port and one Ethernet port needed (PC is not in scope of supply)
